Hospice and Palliative Care Certificate

Hospice and Palliative Care is a specialty within healthcare that focuses on providing compassionate and comprehensive care to individuals of all ages with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

As a Hospice and Palliative Care professional, you have the opportunity to provide compassionate care and support to these patients and families. Your presence and expertise can make a significant difference in enhancing their quality of life, managing symptoms, and promoting comfort and dignity during their end-of-life journey.

In response to the increasing need for skilled professionals in end-of-life care, the USF Health College of Nursing is offering a graduate certificate in Hospice and Palliative Care to equip registered nurses with the education, training, and clinical hours required to sit for the Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPNÒ) exam.

Hospice and Palliative Care Graduate Certificate

Description 

Coursework will align with the Hospice and Palliative Care Credentialing Center’s (HPCC) Role Delineation Study (RDS), including interdisciplinary care planning, pain and symptom management, support, education, advocacy, and practice issues. Students will earn a minimum of 540 clinical hours required to sit for the Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN®) exam. 

Course Location/ Delivery 

This online program consists of (3) required didactic courses that have 1-4 simulation activities (online and/or in person) to enhance classroom learning. The program also consists of (3) required clinical courses to optimize course skills and to meet the eligibility requirements for the certification examination for hospice and palliative care.

August 1, 2024

*Note: Applications will be reviewed, and students will be accepted until the maximum capacity for the graduate certificate program has been reached. After maximum capacity is reached, the program reserves the right to close admission.

    • NGR 6XXX Palliative Approach to Symptom Management Credit Hours: 3 
    • NGR 6XXX Palliative Approach to Pain Management Credit Hours: 3 

    The program also consists of (3) required clinical courses to optimize course skills and to meet the eligibility requirements for the certification examination for hospice and palliative care.

    • NGR 6XXX Palliative Approach to Symptom Management Clinical Credit Hours: 3 Clinical Hours 180

    Requirements:

    1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing program institution
    2. An unencumbered license to practice nursing in the state of Florida

    In addition to the application forms and official transcripts, an applicant must submit the following items to the program:

    1. A curriculum vitae
    2. Statement of interest
    3. Copy of active health care license
    4. Letter of reference from a clinical colleague
