Residency Program

Program FAQ

  • We accept three residents per year. Our residency matches applicants through the NRMP Match program.
  • We employ a home call system. We have two call pools. One team covers Tampa General Hospital and the James A. Haley VA while the other call pool covers Moffitt Cancer Center. The TGH/VA call pool is Q4, and the Moffitt call pool is Q3. Though the Moffitt call pool is more frequent, it does employ night time mid-level coverage 7 nights/week.
  • We get four full weeks of vacation off. For almost all vacation requests we are able to accommodate both the weekend before and after as a part of your vacation as well.

  • Yes, health insurance is provided by the university. A small deduction is automatically removed from your paycheck each pay period and the remainder is largely subsidized. These plans allow you to add your spouse and children as well. You can opt in for additional dental and health insurance.

  • Your rotations will take place between three hospitals in Tampa, FL and one hospital in Jacksonville, FL. In Tampa, you will rotate at Tampa General Hospital, James A Haley VA hospital and Moffitt Cancer Center.  

    During your third and fourth years you will rotate at Nemours Childrens/Wolfson Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL for a dedicated pediatrics rotation. Housing is provided to you free of cost by the department.

  • We currently have dedicated research blocks during the PGY-3 year and PGY-4 years for a total of 4-6 month of research time. During these rotations your only clinical duties will including clinic/week and normal call coverage.
