Goal: To convert a major metropolitan region to electronic prescribing and health records as a proof of concept for the nation.

Project: To provide "decision support" for medical clinicians practitioners to first convert 100% of clinical practices to electronic prescribing, followed by assistance to convert to electronic health records.

Economic Stimulus: The national Regional Extension Center (REC) is supporting the training of health information extension agents that will contribute to economic recovery and expansion. Saves waste in health care. Reduces malpractice liability.

Health Benefit: Improves patient safety, outcome measurement and quality of care resulting in reduced mortality and morbidity, a necessary component of evidence based medicine.

Partners: USF Health representing educational programs in medicine, nursing, public health and pharmacy is joining with Tampa Bay elected officials and hospitals. Under a competitive process, USF's proposal will include active participation of public and private clinical and technology entities.
