The role of the pharmacist is currently changing, and many are being called upon to assist all other healthcare providers with medication therapy management of chronic disease states. There is virtually no aspect of healthcare that will not involve advanced pharmacotherapeutic interventions. While the commonly recognized traditional roles of pharmacists will continue to be essential for the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients, the pharmacists of the future will need to adapt to new methods of pharmaceutical care delivery that are not yet apparent, and participate as members of multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
