David Leffers, M.D.
David Leffers, M.D., is an Associate Professor and Director of the Division of Sports Medicine, Department of Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, at USF Health. He has served as a team physician for the USF Athletic Department since 1984. He is also a founding member and Head Surgeon in the Sports Medicine Department of the Florida Orthopedic Institute.
In addition to USF athletes, Dr. Leffers has worked extensively with professional athletes and teams across the Tampa Bay area, including the Tampa Bay Lightning and Tampa Bay Mutiny. He treats a wide variety of orthopedic sports injuries including injuries of the shoulder, elbow, knee, ankle, and foot.
Dr. Leffers obtained his medical degree from the University of Tennessee, and completed his residency training at the University of Southern California. He also completed his fellowship training in California in sports medicine at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic.
He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Leffers is a member of the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Orthopedics Society of Sports Medicine, the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Southern Orthopedic Association.
