Class of 2018

Ashley reigns from Baseball Heaven—St. Louis, Missouri, and is a member of the class of 2018. She attended Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, FL (aka Dunk City) where she was part of the women’s basketball team. She graduated with an individualized major in Biology, Chemistry, and Spanish. She returned to her hometown and received her medical degree from Saint Louis University in 2013. She and her husband Laith enjoy spending their time relaxing on the beach, playing golf, shooting hoops, along with any variety of other outdoor activities. After finishing residency, Ashley will likely pursue a fellowship, but has yet to decide on the 

Evan was born and raised in Winter Haven, FL. Prior to joining the class of 2018, he earned a BS in Biology from the University of Florida followed by an MD at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He is a die-hard Gator fan and his hobbies include fishing, spearfishing, cooking, and following college and professional sports. His orthopaedic interests are broad and he plans on pursuing a fellowship following residency.

Sean is from originally from Bulverde, Texas and is a member of the class of 2018. He completed his undergraduate education at Loyola Univeristy Chicago earning a B.S. in Molecular Biology and was also a member of the Men's golf team. He continued at Loyola University Chicago's Stritch School of Medicine, recieving his medical degree in 2013. He and his wife, Katy, enjoying spending time with family, going to movies, and trying new resturants. He is an avid San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoys all sports. At this time, his orthopaedic interests are broad and he plans on pursuing a fellowship following residency.

Patrick is a Boston-born, Tampa native. He graduated from Tampa Jesuit and attended the University of Florida where he attained his BS in marketing. Prior to medical school, he managed an oncology office and obtained an MS at Tufts University. He earned a joint MD/MBA degree through Tufts University School of Medicine and the Heller School at Brandeis University. Patrick enjoys traveling the world, anything beach-related, and playing/watching soccer. He is an avid Gator fan, Boston sports fan, and FC Barcelona fan. His orthopaedic interests are wide though he hopes to hold an administrative role in his future career.

Class of 2019

Charles Clark was born and raised in Tampa. He went to college at Washington University in St. Louis where he studied mechanical engineering before coming back to Florida for medical school at Florida State University. In his free time, Charles loves getting outdoors and watching the Braves.

Kevin McCarthy was born in New Brunswick, NJ and moved to Tampa as a child. Kevin is a well-known hometown athlete. While attending H.B. Plant high school, he broke the state sack record for football and subsequently became known as “The Sackmaster” and graduated as salutatorian. He attended college at the University of Florida where he double majored in biochemistry and finance. He chose to stay at University of Florida for medical school. He is currently undecided which area of orthopedics he wishes to pursue following residency.

Thomas Sellers was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama. He graduated from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia with a bachelors. in neuroscience and completed his medical education at The University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. He enjoys music, spending time with his wife Jennie, and following the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Jacob Cox is from Orlando, FL and graduated from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL with a B.S. in biology. He received his MD degree from USF. After medical school, he completed a research fellowship with the Foundation for Orthopaedic Research and Education focusing on trauma, spine, and upper extremity biomechanical and clinical studies. He plans to remain active in research throughout residency. His hobbies include photography, shooting sports, and spending time with his wife and young son.

Class of 2020

Philip was born and raised in the small town of Eunice, LA. After earning his undergraduate degree in biological sciences at Louisiana State University, he moved to New Orleans to attend medical school at LSU. His orthopaedic interests are broad, but he has an early interest in arthroplasty. He loves NOLA, the Saints, poboys, LSU football, and everything Louisiana. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, getting outdoors, cooking, fishing and working around his house.

Shaan Patel was born and raised in Hamilton, AL. He received his BA degree in economics from Emory University and his MD degree from the University of Alabama. His hobbies include playing guitar and piano, traveling, and following the Alabama Crimson Tide and Atlanta Braves. At this time, his orthopaedic interests are broad, and he plans to pursue a fellowship after residency.

Sean Spence was born in Queens, NY and raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL where he attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He received his B.S. in Biology from the University of Florida. He completed his M.D. at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and remains an avid Gator fan. His interests in Orthopaedic Surgery are broad. He enjoys time with family and friends, traveling, fishing, golf and live music.

Ben was born and raised in Virginia in the suburbs of Washington, DC. He graduated with a degree in Physics from the University of Virginia, where he also rowed on the crew team. After working in defense contracting for several years, he applied for medical school, graduating from Duke University in 2015. He and his wife Anna have a son Lincoln, and they enjoy fishing, disc golf, and the Florida sunshine together.

Class of 2021

Adil is a native Texan, born and raised in the Dallas area. He graduated from Dallas Jesuit and earned a B.S. in Biology from Texas Christian University. He went on to receive his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Outside of residency Adil is an avid martial artist, having trained in various disciplines for over twelve years. He also enjoys international travel and is always in search of new places to explore.

Eric is a native Floridian and graduated from the University of Florida with a BS and MS in Aerospace Engineering. After graduation, he worked for the Department of Defense as a flight test engineer and as a civilian pilot/flight instructor before deciding to pursue a career in medicine. He earned his medical degree from Florida State University. His orthopaedic interests are broad, but has an interest in Sports Medicine and remains active in research. In his spare time, his hobbies include flying planes, golfing and spending quality time with his wife Liz and son Jack.

Chris received his undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida. Then went on to complete his medical degree from Tufts University. During his spare time he enjoys surfing and time with his wife.

“Rafa” was born and raised in Barcelona, Spain. After graduating from one of the top medical schools in Spain he moved to Tampa to pursue a Research Fellowship with the world-renowned Orthopedic Trauma Service lead by Dr. Roy Sanders. Rafa has conducted extensive research in the field of Orthopedic Trauma. He earned the Edwin G Bovill best paper award for a study in acetabular fractures. In his free time, he follows from the distance his soccer team and enjoys eating in local Tampa restaurants with his future wife Ines. Rafa plans to apply for a fellowship and make research part of his career to bring new ideas and innovations that can improve patient’s outcomes.

Class of 2022

Stephanie was born and raised in Louisville, KY. She grew up playing volleyball which eventually led her to play for the University of Alabama. She graduated with a BS in biology, then returned home for medical school at the University of Louisville. In her spare time she enjoys the beach, sand volleyball, Crimson Tide football and spending time with her husband, Justin.
Kyle was born and raised in Hillsboro, OH, where he spent most of his time playing basketball, ultimately going on to play at the collegiate level. He received his BS in Exercise Science from the University of Tampa, and his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. Following graduation, he completed a clinical and biomechanical research fellowship at the Foundation for Orthopaedic Research and Education (FORE) in Tampa, FL, where he had the opportunity to present at national and international conferences. Kyle and his wife Emily enjoy traveling and spending time with family. In his spare time, he takes advantage of the outdoors, as he is an avid hunter.
Shea Taylor was born in New Port Richey, FL and is a member of the class of 2022. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida and then completed his medical degree from the University of South Florida. His orthopaedic interests are broad, but he has a special interest in arthroplasty. Outside of the hospital Shea is an avid palm-tree enthusiast; he cultivates over 200 palms across 15 different species.
