Steve Walz, M.A., ATC, LAT
Assistant Athletic Director/Sports Medicine
Steve is currently serving as an Assistant Athletic Director in charge of Sports Medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He was promoted to Assistant AD in April of 2002 after serving for two years as Head Athletic Trainer. Steve oversees all aspects of sports medicine for USF including the day-to-day care of USF Football. He also has a faculty appointment in the College of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics as an instructor. Steve received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri in 1992 before moving to Tampa to attend graduate school at USF. Steve has also served as Head Athletic Trainer for the Tampa Bay Storm, clinician at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute, and as an Outreach Program Director at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Kansas City. He is currently serving on the executive board for the Big East Sports Medicine Society after serving two years as President and was a past executive board member of the Athletic Trainers’ Association of Florida. In 2004, Steve was named the Outstanding Staff member for USF and in 2006 was name the Athletic Trainer of the Year by the state of Florida.
Steve and his wife Shelley reside in Tampa and have a 10 year old son, Henry.
