Biographical Sketch

Dr. Frank Walters was born in Munich, Germany and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. He has been a certified and licensed athletic trainer since 1977. He attended Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, New York and received a BS Degree in Physical Education in 1976. He earned a Master of Science in Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Training from Indiana State University in 1977. In 1988 he earned his PhD in Kinesiology / Higher Education Administration from Texas A&M University, in College Station, Texas. Dr. Walters has worked in a variety of professional work settings around the country as a clinically active athletic trainer at the secondary school setting, university setting, as an educator, and as an athletic health care administrator.

Dr. Walters is currently the Director of Sports Medicine, Wellness, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Diabetes Education for Broward Health, the sixth largest public county health care system in the country, located in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Throughout his career Dr. Walters has served the NATA as the Chair of the Ethnic Minority Advisory Council, Education Degree Task Force, and CIE Committee. In addition, he has served on the Executive Committee of the Education Council, Continuing Education Committee as well as the Editorial Board of JNATA and the Educator's Journal. During his career he has also served as a model and examiner for the BOC certification examination and he currently serves on the BOC Board of Directors.

Dr. Walters has always remained committed to the improvement of athletic training profession through formal professional preparation and to the continual advancement of professional standards with the overriding principle of providing safe and effective care for the patient populations that athletic trainers serve. As an athletic health care administrator he remains committed to ensuring that athletic trainers have the best work environment possible and that they provide quality athletic health care to all patients they encounter. Dr. Walters and his wife Anne-Marie have been married 34 years. They live in Parkland, Florida. They have two adult children: Jason, who resides in Washington, DC, and Tiffany who lives in Queens, New York.
