Biography

Michael J. Shereff, M.D. is Director, Division Foot and Ankle Surgery and Professor, Department of Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, USF College of Medicine.
Dr. Shereff earned his Undergraduate and Master's degree in Biology from Columbia University and his Doctorate of Medicine at University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School. Following a surgical internship/residency at Beth Israel Medical Center and an orthopaedic residency at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, Orthopaedic Institute in New York, he completed fellowship training in Foot and Ankle surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota.
He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and the American Orthopaedic Association.
 
Dr. Shereff is past president of the American Foot & Ankle Society and served on the Board of Directors of that organization for 12 years.  He is past president of the American Orthopaedic Foot Club.
Dr. Shereff is past director of the Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Center of Orthopaedic Specialists of Charleston and Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Medical University of South Carolina.  He served as Director, Division of Foot and Ankle Surgery and Associate Professor for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.  He also served as Adjunct Associate Professor of Bioengineering in the College of Engineering of Marquette University.  Prior to that Dr. Shereff was Assistant Chief of the Foot & Ankle Service at Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute and Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at New York University School of Medicine in New York City.
 
Dr. Shereff is the author of over sixty peer reviewed research papers in the field of adult reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, and is the author of the textbook “Atlas of Foot and Ankle Surgery” published by W.B. Saunders Company.  He has written over twenty book chapters in his subspecialty field.
 
Dr. Shereff has been the recipient of numerous awards for teaching and research.  He is a frequent visiting professor and honored guest speaker at various institutions throughout the United States and worldwide.  He has been listed in Best Doctors in America.
