Biography

Robert John Belsole, M.D., Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Plastic Surgery, serves as Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs at the University Of South Florida College Of Medicine and has served as Chief Operating Officer of the University of South Florida Physician's Group, since 2002. He was appointed Interim Dean for USF College of Medicine Health Sciences from 2003-2004.

After receiving a B.S. in Psychology at the University of Illinois in 1964, Dr. Belsole accomplished his Medical School degree at New York Medical College in 1969. He finished an Internship at the Cleveland Clinic in 1970, and a residency in General Surgery at New York University-Bellevue Hospitals in 1971. He completed a residency at the same institution in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1974 and a postgraduate Hand and Microsurgery fellowship at the University Of Louisville School Of Medicine in 1977 with Drs. H. Kleinert and J. Kutz. He has been a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons since 1980 and the American Orthopaedic Association since 2001, well as other local and national medical societies.

Dr. Belsole joined the University of South Florida in 1977 as Assistant Professor and Chief of the Hand Surgery Division in the Department of Surgery. He was the co-founding member and Vice Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation in 1983.

Dr. Belsole has been Fellowship Program Director for the University of South Florida Hand, Wrist, and Microsurgery Fellowship Program from 1977-2006. He has trained many Hand Fellows in hand, wrist, and microsurgery over the years and has worked as an advisor for undergraduate and graduate students at the University Of South Florida College Of Medicine. He has published in refereed medical journals and presented at both national and local medical societies.

Dr. Belsole's clinical practice focuses on acquired and traumatic problems of the hand and wrist.
