Caring for Expectant Mothers

Every four and a half minutes, a baby is born with a birth defect in the United States.* Receiving this news as an expectant mother creates many concerns for you and your baby. At the Fetal Care Center of Tampa Bay, we understand what this news brings and provide the service and quality of care needed for both mother and unborn baby.

The Fetal Care Center team includes highly skilled and caring professionals who provide specialized care for mothers whose pregnancies are complicated by illness or fetal abnormality. We see patients at Tampa General Hospital (TGH), University of South Florida (USF) Health South Tampa Center, and USF Children's Medical Services. Maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists, pediatric surgeons, pediatric radiologists, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric neurologists, geneticists, and many other healthcare specialists are on our team. The Fetal Care Center of Tampa Bay features maternity services at the new Women's Center at TGH. Babies born at TGH have access to level III neonatal care, the highest level available. Our health care team works closely with mothers and families, answering questions, offering support and counseling, and providing the most advanced options for care and treatment.

Compassionate, Quality Care

We bring together the latest medical techniques available through our university based research with compassionate, patient centered care for both you and your baby. Our physicians are leaders in their specialties, so you can expect the best available care, while our staff is focused on helping you and streamlining your experience. We will work with you to create a care management plan that will meet your needs before, during, and after your baby's birth. We can provide multiple levels of support from consultation to intensive fetal surgical procedures. We are happy to work with your current obstetrician, and in the case of minor interventions, support the delivery of your baby in your own community.

Ease of Access to Care

Our Nurse Coordinator helps ease the burden of pregnant patients affected by a birth defect by connecting them with resources, coordinating doctors' visits, maintaining contact with patients and physicians, and serving as a resource for questions or additional concerns. In addition, our families have access to support services such as pastoral care, and when needed, palliative care and perinatal bereavement counseling.
