Dr. Abel began her medical career with her undergraduate degree Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia in 1982. She worked as a pharmacist for one year before attending medical school to pursue her interest in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She received the "Peszcznski Award of Excellence for Outstanding Resident" at the completion of her Chief residency year. She was an attending physician at Shepherd Spinal Center in Atlanta prior to beginning her USF career in 1993 as Assistant Professor in the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In addition, she served as the divisions Residency Program Director form 2002-2004. Dr. Abel is and active member of several Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation associations. Through devout interest in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, she provides continued medical educational experiences with her many presentation and research activities.
