Physical therapy education requires that the accumulation of scientific knowledge be accompanied by the simultaneous acquisition of skills, professional attitudes, and behaviors. Standards presented in this document are prerequisites for admission and graduation from the University of South Florida School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences. All courses in the curriculum are required in order to develop the essential skills necessary to become a competent therapist. A candidate for the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree must have aptitude, abilities, and skills in the following five areas in order to perform in a reasonably independent manner.
• Communication
• Motor Coordination or Function
• Intellectual, Conceptual, Integrative and Quantitative Abilities
• Behavioral and Social Attributes
General Information
The School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences will be participating in the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service, known as PTCAS, beginning in July 2011. Students applying to the entry-level professional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree program Class of 2016 entering August 2013 will apply online using the PTCAS application beginning July 1, 2012. To learn more about the PTCAS application process, please visit the PTCAS web site at: www.ptcas.org.Admission Requirements: The University of South Florida School of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences will accept applications beginning July 1, 2012 through November 15, 2012 via PTCAS. Qualified students - those with at least the minimum required GPA and either (a) having completed all degree and course requirements or (b) those with no more than two (2) course prerequisites and degree in progress (no exceptions) - are encouraged to apply for admission. Completed applications of qualified students with all supporting documentation, received by PTCAS by November 15, 2012 will be reviewed by the School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences DPT Student Selection Committee. The 40 most qualified applicants will be offered enrollment as a member of the DPT Class of 2016. Letters of offer will be mailed to selected students on or about February 1, 2013. A Waiting List will be maintained of otherwise qualified applicants in the event that a class opening should occur.
Specific Minimum Admissions Requirements

You must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien (PRA) with a Green Card in your possession before we will consider your application;

Minimum 3.2 (out of 4.0) GPA overall and in upper division and prerequisite coursework;

Note: Level of prerequisite courses must be appropriate for science majors, and must have been completed within five (5) years of date of matriculation;

Twenty (20) total volunteer, observational or employment hours experience with a minimum of 8 hours in each type in order to appreciate the differences in physical therapists' responsibilities in each setting. Hours must be documented observational, volunteer or other work experiences in both hospital inpatient and outpatient physical therapy settings.

Two References from Licensed Physical Therapists with knowledge of the applicant's aptitude and potential for success in professional school;

Written autobiographical statement of personal values and purpose for pursuing Physical Therapy as a career;
