Quantitative Human Anatomy
The focus of the CHMR is to develop new and better ways to objectively model and measure human morphology using state of the art imaging and computer technology.
Human anatomy traditionally has been a descriptive science. Using modern medical imaging technology, we are able to see inside the human body to view structures in ways never before dreamed possible. Applications for this technology in clinical medicine are enormous. One of the greatest drawbacks in attempting to utilize this technology in clinical medicine is the lack of understanding about the range of normal anatomical variation. The progression of changes that occur in human anatomy during our lifetime as the result of the normal growth and aging processes have not be sufficiently documented.
Without a complete understanding of normal human morphology, we can never hope to fully understand the changes that can occur as a result of various pathological and disease processes.
