Positions Available for ACGME Radiation Oncology Residency
Applications Open in ERAS July 1, 2007
Two Radiation Oncology residency positions are available for PGY-2 residents starting July 1, 2008 and July 1, 2009 respectively (two resident each year) for an ACGME Accredited Radiation Oncology Residency Program. The Program is sponsored by the University of South Florida Office of Graduate Medical Education. The primary training site is the Division of Radiation Oncology, Department of Interdisciplinary Oncology, H. lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute. Affiliated training sites include the James A. Haley Veterans Administration Hospital and All Children’s Hospital.
Residency Program Training Goals
The goals of the Residency Training Program are to provide excellence in resident education in an environment which utilizes technically advanced equipment and encompasses compassionate, multidisciplinary patient care with concern for quality of life and to foster new knowledge through scholarly activities in order to develop skilled radiation oncologists who will become recognized experts in the field.
Length of Program
The Program offers a four year training program in Radiation Oncology, following the successful completion of a preliminary training year.
Criteria
Applicants must meet the following qualifications: satisfactory completion of PGY-1 level or greater year in a United States ACGME accredited program. The first year of postgraduate resident clinical training must be conducted in internal medicine, family practice, obstetrics/gynecology, surgery or surgical specialties, pediatrics, or a transitional-year program on or before June 30 of the year 2008 or 2009 respectively. PGY-1 training is not provided by the Radiation Oncology Residency Program. The experience will then be followed with four years of focused training in Radiation Oncology.
Residents must have passing scores on USMLE Steps 1 and 2 or equivalent, qualify for a Florida State training license, ACLS certification, and current ECFMG certificate (EFMG’s only), and the fulfillment of general criteria set forth for residents by the University of South Florida College of Medicine.
Accreditation
The Radiation Oncology Residency Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The Program will follow all training and accreditation guidelines as set forth by the ACGME, to include competency based training and the implementation of the six core competencies.
Graduate Medical Education
The Radiation Oncology Residency Program will fall under the Graduate Medical Education Office of the University of South Florida College of Medicine, who adheres to all polices of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Currently, there are fifty-one accredited residency programs at the University of South Florida. The office of the Graduate Medical Education provides excellent oversight and educational resources to assist in the maintenance of highly successful graduate medical education programs. The Moffitt Cancer Center, Primary Training Site, has a designated Residency Office which consists of a full-time Residency Coordinator dedicated to the Radiation Oncology Residency Program.

Selection of Residents
The Radiation Oncology Residency Program is dedicated to producing quality, highly trained radiation oncologists prepared to seek careers in either academic or private practice medicine. In order to achieve this goal, the Program will seek candidates based upon their preparedness, ability, academic credentials, communication skills, motivation and integrity, and will not discriminate with regard to sex, race, age, religion, color, origin, disability, or veteran status.
Application Process
Applications for both academic years will be accepted in the ERAS system after July 1, 2007. Interviews for both academic years will be conducted in the fall of 2007. The Program will participate in the National Resident Match Program (NRMP). As such, applicants must register with ERAS and the NRMP.
